What is contipation, anyway?
If you ask an 'expert' what is a normal 'bowel habit,' the answer will reflect what is 'normal' to the expert. Unfortunately, there is no general consensus of opinion as to what is truly 'normal.'
What is irrefutable is the fact that other mammals have bowel movements every time they eat. If you have a dog or cat, they enjoy 'going outside' for a walk after each meal. This reflects the gastro-colic reflex that is present in mammals.
Stimulate the stomach with distension and the distal bowel readies itself for defecation. Unfortunately, we are just so much smarter than our dogs and cats that we've trained our bowels to behave more like suitcases, where we carry around waste material. This is unhealthy in the extreme.
As we age, the colon distends, that is, it gets fatter and fatter, which makes the muscle in the colon weaker and weaker. We find ourselves clearing our bowel once a day, if we are 'regular,' and every few days if we are 'irregular.' Both of these situations are unhealthy.
Our Goal: With colonic re-training, our goal is to have bowel movements after each scheduled meal, that is, 3 times, daily.
Procedure:
- Increase insoluble fiber intake
- Enteric coated Cape Aloe
- Flax Seed Oil
I prescribe these three products to my patients as:
- Fiber Plus 3 capsules, twice daily.
- Dr Dave's Defec-Aid, two capsules at bed time.
- Flax Seed Oil 1000 mg, two capsules at bed time.
These are available at www.stage-of-life.com and they are pretty inexpensive to take. I put them together in the 'specials' section, to make it a little easier to get started.
It takes two days, and things move on and out.
I will be introducing the evening two medications in a convenient packet. It takes me time to get around to these things, but I should have it on the market in about 6 weeks.
